History

The inspirations of Countryballs

Bruno Bozzetto's Work on Polandball

The Countryballs was inspired by the video called Italy vs Europe in 1999, the creator is Bruno Bozzetto. The European Unionball and Italyball are portrayed in circles. This shares the same characteristics as he manifested his creativity.

Drawball.com incident

Drawball.com (not to be confused with with Drawball.io or the Xbox One game) was a website with two large circular canvases and simple drawing tools for people to draw anything with. Drawball One is protected and must apply to draw while Drawball Two lets anyone draw without moderation.

Around August of 2009, a couple of Polish internet users, mainly from vykop.pl, insomnia.pl and kibice.net started to fill the canvas displaying the polish flag with "POLSKA" written on it.

Krautchan era

On September of 2009, Falcofag would post a crudely drawn MS Paint comic to depicting Polandball holding an ice cream and Germanyball grabbing said ice cream and it falls down.[1] It is widely accepted as the first Polandball comic ever made.

Planetballs

Planetballs (sometimes referred to as Spaceballs on rare occasions) is a canon spin-off of Countryballs that represents space, specifically planets, moons, stars, asteroids, galaxies, etc. Planetballs do appear in certain countryballs comics. Pluto shared the same stereotype with Poland (Pluto cannot into real planet, only considered as dwarf planet). Currently, Reddit has over 23,288 members.

Early era

It isn't exactly known when Planetballs as a community began to form, but the planetball subreddit was made on the 10th of April 2013

"Alternate Future of the Solar Sytem" era

Solarballs era

Before SolarBalls, there were not a lot of creators that make Planetballs videos on YouTube, so it didn’t reach its popularity like Countryballs. When Solarballs began to make Planetballs contents, which his characters had their mouths as their countryball channel MrSpherical has too, Planetballs had became popular but people drew Planetballs with mouth as Solarballs’ art style or adding more expressions and uses his idea as the portrayal of them, they call it "Solarballs" instead od "Planetballs".

Polcompball (Ideologyballs)

Polcompball , fully Political Compassball or Ideologyballs is a Ball community that focuses on the political ideologies with major focus on political compass. It originated from r/PoliticalCompassMemes/ subreddit and  Polandball.

Non Ball-related variants

Countryhumans

Countryhumans is a fandom that countries are being portrayed as humans, it's closely similar to Polandball, most countries are stereotyped (often according to Polandball's stereotypes). It's very infamous in most areas of the Countryballs community and the Art community for having loathed ships.

Mapping

Mapping is a type of film, almost exclusively produced as a YouTube video, in where a series of still images (sometimes animated) depicting political maps creates a narrative. People who create mapping content are self-dubbed Mappers. Most commonly, characters are displayed as political or corporate entities, such as countries, states, parties, or companies, yet individual fictional people occasionally are portrayed as characters. As opposed to simply the names of the countries, many mapping videos use countryballs to depict countries. Many mappers also use countryballs as public personas.
